Gas Mileage Log For Cabriolet

So, we had the car for a few weeks now and we're very happy with the drive and the gas mileage so far.

304 miles - 12.42 gallons = 24.47MPG - 5-27-11

309 miles - 12.70 gallons = 24.33MPG - 6-5-11

371 miles - 15.61 gallons = 23.76MPG ? Compares to Q7 169... ... miles - 10.6 gallons = 15.9MPG?

395 miles - 15.7 gallons = 25+MPG .

371 miles - 14.8 gallons = 25+ MPG with the top down every day... Loving it.

Audi Cabriolet First Week Impressions

It's been a week since we got our 04 Audi Cabriolet, my wife misses the comfort and stability of the A8 while driving the cabriolet. It's obvious that 2 cars are totally different, in both sizes and build. We both like to drive the cabriolet, it's nimble, quiet, solid, comfortable and very easy to drive because of its size. The car feels heavy and stable for a small car. Wind... ... noise is practically none when the top is up. The car is quick, responsive and smooth with the Multitronic CVT transmission. The 3.0 litter is so powerful, it pulls the car easily and effortlessly through all ranges. We try to avoid turbos and supercharged engines, simplicity always is more reliable and easy to maintain. We drove for 334 miles city and freeway and fill up again is 13.77 gallons (24Mpg). The gas mileage is great on this car especially with 221hp 3.0L V6. The power top is nice and easy to operate, the wind deflector is a must to have while driving any convertible if you don't want the wind to blow through the car so much. It is a joy to drive the Audi A4 Cabriolet. We love the car.

Audi Homelink Transmitter Programming

These days newer cars have built in universal remote which is very convenient and COOL . Our new (used) 2004 Cabriolet does come with one and I had to try to program it for our garage door. The new garage door unit these days have security feature built-in called rolling codes (Genie) and it needs to be paired up with each new remote. The programming on the Audi has been... ... painless (Q7) and the homelink systems work better than the original remotes that come with the garage unit. This Audi A4 is no different, painless with a twist .

According to the manual

Turn on the ignition, press the button # we want to program it to, wait until the red LED indicator starts to blink slowly. We have 5 minutes to program this button.

When the LED starts blinking slowly, take the working remote, go in front of the car and press the remote to open/close pointing at the bumper (actually in our car, we can sit in the car and press this button and it still works), hold the button until the signal lights blink 3 times, then release the remote button.

Now, when we go back inside the car, the slow blinking LED turns to fast blinking LED then OFF. We press the button to see if it works, but it doesn't. We need to go to the garage main unit receiver, there is a "learn" button with a red LED indicator, we need to press this one, the red LED indicator will blink slowly, now go the homelink button and press it (1 second interval) 3 times, the third time, the garage should open/close. We're done. Take the car out, drive away from the garage, press the homelink button to see the range, our Q7 and Cabriolet are pretty good. The twist is that the spare remote that I used is no longer works after the successful programming of the Homelink system. I can only choose one or the other and not both. Something is going on between these 2 transmitters. There are no codes switches inside the spare remote for me to even try to change it.

Video tells the procedure better

Audi Seat Memories And Key Fobs

We owned Audis that have remote key fobs and driver memory seat, it's great for family members to drive the car without having re-adjusting the seat everytime we use the same car. The driver seat can have up to 4 memory positions, which means we can also have 4 key fobs with different positions if we need to. Our kids are little, so we only have 2 drivers: me and... ... my wife. We have 2 key fobs, one programmed for my position and 1 for hers. Here's how they work. To program the key fobs go here.

2004 A4 Cabriolet 3.0 CVT

I've been looking for a convertible for over a year now. I used to have Lancia Scorpion, Fiat Spider, Alfa Romeo Spider and I loved them, especially living in sunny CA. I had to sell my 1991 Alfa Romeo when my daughter's born and I told myself that I'll get another one when time and financial situations permit. It is now, the only thing is that we need a 4... ... seater = the cabriolet, Audi A4 Cabriolet won BMW 3 series (for people who believe their ultimate driving machines have to be bumpy and less problems than others), Volvo and Saab (for people who believe safety doesn't come with quality and workmanship (rattle-less) in both prices and qualities (IMHO) , Mercedes is never a consideration (bland and terrible quality these days - only for insecured status hungry people). Actually I like BMW C330i convertible, the drive is nice (ultimate driving machine) but when the top is up, it doesn't look so smooth like the Audi's. The late 99 BMW is better looking than the 2000+. The Volvo is terrible, bland looking, poor workmanship and the interior is so plasticky, cheap plastic, the ride is wobbling all over the place, don't even try to turn sharp corner. Saab has been successful with their convertibles for many years, but the 2000+ don't drive nice at all, everything seems so loose and turbo? I don't like turbos, I rather get a V6 or a V8, I think Audi makes mistakes by making these 1.8T or 2.0T. Turbos lag in acceleration and costly to maintain, especially when time to replace them. At this time, a BMW 3 convertible with the same year 2004, same mileage and options, would cost more than an Audi about $3-$4k. I like the BMW 3 6cylinder engines, they don't use timing belts, which can run over 100k miles easily. My old A6 runs on the same timing belt 146k miles, but I'm taking chances and I do check it once in a while. But whatever it is, we decided to get a RED 2004 A4 Cabriolet for my wife this mother's day. We don't know how it will serve us, but it's from the original lady owner (not the old lady from Pasadena), nice and solid car with tons of dings and scratches. Well, it's my job to fix them on weekends and post them here . I wanted the BMW so I can have other types of car to maintain and write about, but we both like the look and the ride of the Audi, especially the price doesn't break our bank.

We test drove this 2003 3.0 CVT with 75k miles, very nice car.
We found our car from the best classified website - Craigslist.org. It's far away from our home, but the car is nice and from original owner with good carfax report. Although there are many scratches and dings, but everything is original and all keys, manual, records are kept and the price $10k due to scratches and dings. We test drove the car and my wife really liked the ride and the quietness of the car.

I was warned about the cvt transmission problems from the forum, many had their transmissions twice at 80k miles. Our car only has 71k miles and the owner vowed never had any problems or hic-ups with this car. We may get a non-defective one.

We picked up the car last night, it was solid, smooth, comfortable (my wife refused to drive it home since she doesn't know the car well), @65Mph, the tach shows less than 2k RPM, this car will have great gas mileage on the freeway, even with V6. The owner said she got 30+ on the freeway, I do believe that. It was 57 degree with the top down, I was cold, but the heated seat and heater worked great. I didn't know how to put the wind deflector on and we pressed for time, so it's a little windy driving the car.

Until we test drive all the cars, we wouldn't know which one fits us the best, and yes, all cars have their pluses and minuses. All cars lose values and all cars break down due to Murphy's laws, we wanted to try different types of makes, but when you already owned Audis, nothing even comes close. Ah, I never mentioned about Mercedes, these days, Mercedes quality seems like going down and their designs more like Japanese cars, and people who drive them, they seemed to need status more than the cars themselves IMHO. I saw many nice ladies sitting in new S class Mercedes stranded on the freeway which all our Audis never had. Well, if you want cars to show off, Mercedes, it's OK to sit on the freeway sometimes, it comes free with the mark these days I heard their towing services are very responsive.

It's Time To Say Goodbye To Our A8 After 7 Wonderful Years

We would never think of a day that we would replace our wonderful A8 for a smaller A4. But it's going to be a cabriolet, since the summer is coming and the sun should be bright and warm in Northern CA, nothing better than driving the family in a 4 seater convertible, especially 4-Rings one. The kids love the test drive and the color. Anyhow, last night I took some... ... pictures of our A8, it has always been good to us, now it leaks oil and smokes in stop and go trips (this one I know what the problem is, it can be fixed easily), the oil leaks, I don't know where they come from and I don't want to bother with it, just top the oil every thousand miles. The breather hose, both of them cracked, one seems to be fixable with hoses and other may have to get the original part from dealer. I don't really want to bother with these also. The car just turn 175k miles.

The smoke due to crimped style clamp leaks under pressure from the expansion tank.

Replace A6 C5 Control Arms

My father's been driving my old 98 A6 for 8 years now, it's 13 years old and he claims that the car is bouncy and wobble when driving over bumps and uneven roads. He is thinking about the shocks, but the tires do wear out evenly, I suspect the control arms are at fault. Anyhow, he lives about 500 miles away, so I can't just come over and inspect the... ... car. I have to do some research and one day drive down from the bay to OC to replace these for him. There are great youtube videos about replacing these control arms, I put them here for later use.

Honda Odyssey Oil Pressure Light On Fix

Well, my father-in-law 97 Honda Odyssey (340k miles) oil pressure light indicator flickering on/off intermittently when cold, hot even though the oil are full in the engine. Some shops thinks it's too old and may need a new oil pump, this and that. Well, before we go to the extend of replacing anything, the easy one should be checked first, oil pressure sender unit, it's behind the engine next to... ... the oil filter and it looks like this. We did clean the contact to make sure it's not the sender unit. It didn't help, so the oil pressure sender unit is the one we must try to replace. The outside of the box says thermoswitch. As long as it has a hole for the oil to come in, it's the one.

Part number - 37240-PT0-014

Replace this and the problem's gone away for weeks now. Anyhow, if you search for this part #, it will work with all Honda and Acura models including the BIG RL, amazing. $15-$20 depends on where you go.

Replace Rear Brake Pads On Mitsubishi Montero 3.5L

Times are tough these days for people in US, especially in CA, the nanny state. My older sister felt the pinch, called me out of the blue to ask if I can replace rear brakes for her 99 Mitsubishi Montero 3.5L and a few belts for the engine also. Well,... ... if I can change brakes on Audis, I can change brakes on any car, but only Disc system, not these cheap drums from most Japanese cheaper cars. Japanese cars these days are not cheap, they're just being cheap to maximize their profit, I remembered my wife's $22k 1997 Honda Accord LX still have the rear drum brakes. [read more here...]

Install Bindings On New Skis

Ski season is going to an end, some Sports Authority stores put all ski equipment on sale and we picked up a pair of skis for my daughter and bindings for less than $70. Since the boots must have flowers or girly look, we had to pay $65 for a pair of Dabella at Any Mountain store. The skis are on sale, but the bindings installation is not, $35.00. For... ... me, I like to try new things, so I decided to install them myself.

There are some instructions on the internet, but none were clearly shown how to do it. I think it's because of the liability. Well, my daughter is 7, 4 feet tall, but only weighs 43lb. According to the Rossignol chart, my daughter can only use the skis less than 100cm, although they will only measured below her chin. Anyhow, we got everything my little girl.

So, each ski has a line in the middle as a center mark for binding installation. Each boot has a line mark C in the center of the base also. What we need to do is to make sure the front and the back of the bindings and the boot mated together with center marks aligned.

1. With the center marks aligned (boot & ski), place the tip binding to the tip of the boot to see where we should mount this part. We found out that there is a mark on the toes binding that's pretty much where the tip of the boot should be.

2. With the ski and boot center marks aligned, use marker to mark the tip and back of the boot on the ski.

Draw a straight line touching the tip mark across the ski. Aligned the center mark (2 parts separation mark) of the front binding to the straight line across the tip of the boot. Now we can select the drill bit, the drill bit should be smaller than the screws themselves. In our case, we used 9/64 drill bit.

We marked the length of the drill depth with the screws with tape to make sure we don't drill tooooo deep. Using the drill press, we started with the center hole first. Slowly and precisely and stopped just before the taped mark.

After the center hole is drilled, we aligned the front binding (no screws attached) again and mark when neccessary to make sure all 3 holes will align with the binding holes. Again, slowly and precisely until just before the taped mark on the drill bit. When 3 holes are done. The next thing is to get the screws and some glue. We believed we didn't use the correct glue, it's 5 minute loctite superglue which actually dry up faster out door than 30 seconds. We had to screw them down quickly before the superglue sets in. We just filled the holes with this superglue. We should be using the wood glue which we also bought. Anyhow, it came out fine, the screws were tightly done.

Now the front binding is done, we need to install the heel binding. Push the front boot in the front binding fully, remove the plastic part on the heel binding, slide it up to the heel of the boot, mark the where about to place the heel binding on the skis. Mark the holes and center everything. The heel binding has some adjustment for the length of the boot, it should be somewhere in the middle. Just lift the lock and move it forward or backward.

Again, use a narrow marker to mark the 4 holes, centered and start with the back hole, one by one and re-mark the hole for each drill, make sure all 4 drilled holes fit the holes on the binding. Make sure to put the plastic part back after marked and drilled the heel binding.

The glue we should use is the one that has time to settled, superglue is too fast and we need to screw in very quickly. Wood glue or 5 minutes epoxy are the best. We screw with hand force slowly and firmly until all the screws went down completely until they stopped. The glue will hold them in place. The best is to see the bindings are totally flat with the ski surface.

Again, this is the way we did ours, please do yours with your own risks. These are kids skis and they're only $40.00 a pair on sale and not $200.00. We'll be testing these out over the President day weekend.

Cheers,

Louis

Things We Should/Must Know About Our Audis... Emergency

Sometimes, in case of emergency like needing a jump on battery or tow, we or our spouse may not know where all these important stuff are. These are the little things we should/must know about Audi cars.
* If we have a Quattro (All Wheel Drive) Audi, we need a flatbed to tow our cars. When we take the car to get smog check, most or all of the time,... ... the tech should know we don't need to test on rollers because it's AWD. * None of the Audis has battery placed in the front engine bay, so when we need a jump from another car when the battery is dead or low, we need to locate the jump posts in front or battery itself if it's in the trunk.

* Power steering fluids are mineral (green oil), the safe one is Pentosin 11s, so don't just put any power steering fluid in it. The best is to get one of these cans on line because we may need it sometimes, especially if the car is over 100k miles.

* Locate the fuse box on Audis cars: A6 is on the left, A8 is on the passenger footwell right (there is a screw knob), and Q7 are on both left and right of the dash board just like the A6

* We have 3 cars that have all batteries placed in all Audi possible locations, so they can be a great examples for Audi's owners.

96 A6-The battery is under the rear passenger bench seat, therefore, it has the jumper cable posts in the engine bay. If we need to replace the battery, we just have to remove 2 screws holding the seat to the floors and lift the seat up.

The most important thing when putting jumper cables on the car, RED (+ positive) and BLACK (- negative) on both cars while making a jump. Lift the black plastic cover, we should see a metal terminal where we can clip the RED positive cable on to it.

98 A8 D2 battery is placed in the trunk on the right handside. Since the battery is easily accessible, there's no engine jump terminals that we know of, so when we need a jump for our battery, we use the battery location for jumper cables.

Again, most terminal post should have a plastic cover to avoid accidental short from metal objects to the ground (negative) terminals. The Ground (Negative) terminal is exposed, this is where the black jumper cable should clamp on to in case of battery jumping.

Positive Terminal is where the RED clamp should be on.

We need to locate all the fluids indicators and stick to check. The coolant is red (we use prestone red coolant instead of the dealer's), power steering is green (pentosin 11s), and the engine oil dipstick is orange (our little ring broke off).

Again, Our Q7 battery is placed under the seat. Since the battery is NOT easily accessible, there are engine jump terminals for jumper cables.

Again, most positive terminal posts should have a plastic cover to avoid accidental short from metal objects to the ground (negative) terminals.

It's been a while since we washed our Q7, although it's always been in the garage but after a few trips to the snow, it did need a wash. We also want to check the condition after 3 years and almost 21k miles. The front brake pad's thickness is still good. We couldn't take picture of the rear, but they're still good also.

What Happens When The "Stupid Lease" Ends?

All good things come to and end with our Q7. The 3 years lease is up, what should we do with our wonderful Q7? Let's sum it up with our experience with the Q7, the garage Queen.

In 3 years, we drove almost 21k miles, it's mostly the weekend car thanks to our reliable drivers: 96 A6 Wagon and 98 A8. The 21k miles are driven to long trips like Vegas,... ... Reno, and Southern California. The weather's been great in CA and we had no problem with our Q7 what so ever. Yes, the keyless remotes are a little short range compare to the A6's & A8's but they work.

We had the car serviced about 3-4 times total which we paid $600 for 4 years/60k miles service contract when we leased our car.

The tires are still good, the brakes are still stopping on time, the acceleration and power to climb 8000 feet altitude have not diminished.

All electronics still work without any intermittent problems. The massive panoramic sunroof is still tight and not leaking.

Nothing is falling off or out of place. The car is still like new. The more we drive the car, the better it feels and the more we love it.

Options at the end of lease.

CPO it or not?

With this option, we have to take it to any dealer to get it certified with 301 points inspection and we have to pay for the inspection $350+ depends on the dealers. If the car pass the rigorous inspection without fixing requirements, we're eligible for low financing 2.9%-3.9% for 60 months with AFS and 6years/100k miles extended warranty for $1500-$1800 depends upon the dealers again. We will have to sell the car to the dealer for the residual or whatever we owed on the lease and some dealers will add $1000 or not profit and sell it back to us if it passed CPO. Some dealers would offer no CPO if we don't want to have it for just a little higher interest rate. So, average would cost us $2000 minimum to get CPO and 6years/100k miles warranty + fixing the requirements like brakes pads or tires are less than minimum requirements.

CPO 6years/100k miles catch

The warranty is NOT transferable to the new owner, only on the original owner, so if we plan to have CPO to sell it as a great used car with warranty, it's out. The original manufacturer warranty is 4years/50k miles, so actually the CPO warranty only cover the last 2 years + 50k miles. Like our Garage Queen Q7, we will have 40k miles after 6 years, it doesn't make sense to get the CPO and have to deal with all these inspections and pay the money up front.

AFS Re-financing

AFS will not discount the residual as our 98 A6 lease before ($17k down to $15k) because the residual of our Q7 is much lower than the market value. The interest rate is higher @ 4.64% for 60-72 months which is still good for used car. As a 20 years loyal customer, my bank can only offered me 9.8% on my Q7.

So we got our loan through AFS and never look back.

Total cost after all said and done.

$4600 (down payment) + $18632($548x34) + $36540 ($609x60) = $59772 total principle, tax and interests after 9 years.

Windshield Wipers Suddenly Stop Working

2004 A8 D3 seems to have more electronic and sensor stuff than the other generation D2. The other day when it was raining, my sister complained that the windshield wipers stopped working and got stuck in the middle of the windshield. She had to push them down to clear the... ... windshield to drive home. What was the problem? Here is how we fixed it.

I fiddled a little bit with the onboard computer and found under "car setting" or something to this effect a "reset windshield wipers maintenance warning" or something to this effect, can't remember the exact wordings, anyway, this did the trick, now they work again. Apparently, when it's time to change the blades, they stop working until you manually reset the warning message...

Well, I'm glad that it was an easy fix.

Cheers,

$70k Disposable Car

Disposable: designed for or capable of being thrown away after being used or used up.

Last few weeks, I took the A8, myself took a trip to Reno for some conferences. It's been a long time since I drove the car (my wife daily driver), I was amazed at how nimble... ... and smooth it drives regardless of 4000lbs specs. The car is quiet, powerful, comfortable and totally predictable to the wet road and snow. I looked at the odometer, 169k miles, wow, what a car. My wife has been telling me that her average mileage was consistently at 20mpg.

It's a 1998 A8, the original sticker price is $72k, fully loaded. We got this car on July 4th 2004 (which was 6 year old) with 107k miles for $11500. It's been the best car ever for us. My wife now will not buy any car until her A8 is dead or requires a great deal of money to fix. Well, it's practically a disposable car now. I looked at craigslst to see how old A8s are selling, 98-99 in CA, people can't give them away for $5k with 120k miles or less.

1997 A8 doesn't have tiptronic, 1998-1999 some have transmission problems, 2000-2003 new front and interior changes, 40V engine.

To me all cars cost money to drive, the best cars are the safe one, beautiful to drive and cost the least money. My A8 & A6 are the best ones so far for me.

Why do I emphasize on DISPOSABLE car? Because if you don't, you will pour tons of money to it and it will ruin your bank if you don't know what your doing, but if you know what to look for, you will have the best disposable car for your family to enjoy for years and they will never go back to any other cars. So disposable A8 or A6 are cars for us to drive until it dies or donated and NO Fixing or unnecessary Maintenance.

I wanted to write about these wonderful disposable cars for a long time. Now, it's holidays and I have some spare time, I'll finish this one sometimes this holidays.

Most of A8 owners kept their car very well except some junk ones, we need to screen out the bad ones and get the good ones. The cars are built to sell for $70k, the quality is given, my 12 year old 170k miles car is more comfortable and quieter than my friend's 2009 Accord and G35, Acura TL and it's not required snow chains on the Sieras.

Like I said before, I like the facts that all my friends mechanics tell them to stay away from Audis and buy BMW & Mercedes because actually their cars break down more, but because they are BMW and Mercedes, fixing them is given and they accept without questioning, how ironic. Let them be, the more people are afraid of Audis, the cheaper are our disposable cars.

When you have time, go drive a 10 year old any kind of car with 170k miles lexus, infinity, acura, mercedes, bmw and our A8, none will beat the performance, comfort and safety of our A8.

How do we calculate the cost of driving our A8, A6?

Who should get these wonderful Disposable Audis?

Everything needs planning and a goal, all expensive cars with tons of electronics and options will have more chance to fail because what's made to fail, will fail, the question is WHEN. So, in our experience with these Audis, these are things an owner should have.

1. A windows os laptop with serial or usb port for VAG-COM. We need this wonderful device to reset and check the whole electronics of the car.

2. A will to do something for the car yourself. Good techs will charge $100/hour for labor, even a simple thing.

3. The strength to let go of the car when it became a money pit when you got a wrong one.

4. Stay away from Dealers & Cheap Audi shops because it's a disposable car.

5. Like to read and have some common sense, because when things fail, audiworld, quattro world, audi pages must be read and understand the content.

How to find the best Audis for the money?

Here are the lists of things NORMALLY fail at a certain mileages and vary depends upon where we live or the car's been.

Suspension.

A8 has the best ride (at least IMO and others who moved from Japanese cars BMW to Audi) because the suspension consists of many control arms, front, rear, upper, lower and NOT just a shock and a coil. So, we've changed our 98 at 110k-115k miles and the 2000 A8 @ 130k miles. We can get the whole set on the ebay for less than $400.00 if you look hard. Dealer would charge $100-250 a piece. When different control arms fail, the symtomps are different, but clunking noise is normally the one.

Oil Cooler Pipe

We replaced our 98 A8 @ 160k miles, the 2000 A8 @ 130k miles. This plastic oil cooler pipe causes the coolant to leak slowly. $50 dollar set, but labor is intensive, should do this when the timing belt and water pump and thermostat are replaced.

Timing belt, waterpump, thermostat

These things are relative when they should be replaced. Our 2000 A8 at 130k miles, the belt, waterpump are still good, the thermostat failed because the owner put "fix leak" into coolant attempt to stop plastic coolant pipe leak, our 98 waterpump doesn't fail even at 160k miles. A few people change them at 90k, 100k, 105k, this job is extremely important to have someone who do the job carefully and well. If not, the car can be ruined by not very competent shops.

Transmission

98-99's A8 seemed to have transmission failures in the 100k miles range which result in transmission rebuilt. Our 98 A8 had it changed @68k miles. My brother had his done @ 130k. So when we get these 98-99, we roll the dice. I don't believe all 98-99 will fail, the percentage of failures may be high. Our 2000 is running strong @ 130k now.

Other than these big things, we have no other problems with the car that we see so far.

FINDING THE BEST CAR FOR THE MONEY

All cars are easy to buy, but very hard to sell because when we buy, we have money and we're hot for the car. When the car has problems then we want to sell, it's extremely difficult to find the "ass for our troubled car". A8 is a very beautiful and wonderful driving car, so watch out when we test drive them, especially if you haven't been in any of them before. You will fall inlove with the first one you drove (it's proven with many of my family members). Even if the car has problems, it still may drive extremely well because it's built to sell for $70k and not 20k or 40k. So, how do we find these least troubled cars or even troubleless cars? What do we look for? You can bring the best mechanics with all tools and knowledge, you still may get a wrong one because everything is controlled electronically, the intermittent problems are often the case.

LOOK FOR THE OWNER.

Find the car that owned by honest and responsible owner. There are many A8 owners like that around. Many A8 ownners are actually respectable people, who are either enthusiats or above average people. These people wouldn't cheat you for a few hundreds or thousands dollars. They have their integrity to uphold, that's why they're above average and drive $70k cars.

Avoid wishy washy sellers who pretend to forget about everything about the cars, receipts. I will not buy any car from anyone who only has 1 key for the car, or own the car less than a year.

I rather to pay more for a car from an honest owner who would tell me the car make noise every summer than an owner who claims his/her car doesn't need anything but sells cheaper and lost all their service receipts.

Pay more for the car that's well kept and original over a real cheap one that needs work and modified. The original A8 is great, you don't need garage engineers to modify brakes, suspension, engines to make it better, avoid these with all costs.

Our cars are 13 & 15 years old and the door panels have never been opened, brakes pistons are original, shocks are still old. Audis are built to last if they owned by the right owners. Everything works.

Choose the car with the most options: warm weather package and cold weather package, navigation (2000+), L(2000+), parking sensors (2000+), xenon, outside chromatic mirrors, Bose.

Since it's going a disposable car, find the best one and hope it will last a few years before you donate it. If it costs $2k a year/10k miles to drive this car, then it's a good price. So, if you pay $6k for a 2000 A8, it should last you at least 3 years or 30k miles without major costs, it's a good deal.

Test drive the car at night, cold to hear all the noise because day time is very noisy, it's hard to hear the clunking, the suspension being loose, the trannie making noise and the ride is more comfortable in the warm weather than cold.

Many people would love to buy cars that have brand new tires, but I'm extremely suspicous about new tires, I bought my cars when the tires only have a few thousand miles left, all the tires wear out evenly (no alignment or shocks or suspension problems), I still got the discount for the tires and a peace of mind, this one did save me tons of money on possible shocks and alignments or even frame damaged car.

What do we have to do with our Audis while driving it daily?

Tobecontinued

Sometimes we decided to use the cigarette lighters for playing videos or portable GPS and none of them have power. We check the fuses and everything is in order. What else could it be? After going to the Audiworld to check with other A8 users and someone suggested the rear window switch, and it was off by accident. Turn it on and voila, all the cigarette lighters have power, again. Simple isn't it?
