Since many of my friends who don't work for big corporations use Apple computers, I think it's time for me to try a new OS. I'm not the kind of guy just go out and buy a over priced MAC just to try it out. Yes, $29 for a retail Leopard 10.6.3 which I can't use for now since it's too new for my hackintosh (non-mac hardware running mac osx).... ... If with the specs of my computer, Apple would charge at least $2k for it. I don't even know if they build Intel I7 yet, the last time I looked, it was still core 2 duo which I used 2 years ago. Yes, they don't need the best hardware because they have the best OS for their system. Well, now I know why macs are so expensive.
I made an experiment: Leopard OS X on my i7 and all I can say is WOW!!!
It's very fast and has very nice features even running at 32 bit.
The graphics is running at 1920x1080 on my ACER 24" LCD. The $15 airlink101 150n AWLH6070 is downloading @ 2.5Mbs which I have never seen my windows did that. All the browsers are blazing fast because ie6,7,8,9,10,11... doesn't exist here. Now I can see the difference of products between the squared business type Mr.Gates and the passionate, creative Mr.Jobs (besides the money of course). The Safari has all the internet features which ie doesn't have any. The only problem is MAC OS x doesn't have many free software that are good. I had to download VLC to play my mkv, dvd files besides the .mov mp4 dominated by quicktime.
It's learning time. I'll have to learn about the oprating system and learn all the tips and tricks just like with the windows. I may not go back to windows if I learn everything about this leopard. BTW, I'm writing in Leopard.
Update after weeks learning about this OS.
Unless I can load Snow Leopard 10.6.3 with full QE/CI/CL support graphic cards, it's nothing compares to Windows 7. It's great with 10.6.3 full QE/CI/CL allows me to use iMovie and iMovieHD to create my videos in HD, it's a great tool, solid and optimized. The screen video capture is the best. Other than that, Windows 7 has everything also and more free usable software. Since I got the system dialed in, the best of both worlds today 2010, Windows 7 & Snow Leopard 10.6.3 fully functional with i7 which is the top of the line consumer CPU at the moment. I love to try new things... this is a nice one and please don't say it doesn't hang, yes it does sometimes... No blue screen of death but white screen with the progress bar running and NO Crtl+Alt+Del, if you can get to force quit which you may not because of the white screen. Power button is your friend.
Cheers,
Louis
